Destination Desolation 2016

After our first trip to Desolation Sound, we came home saying that we couldn't wait to go back... and so we did!  Both times it was been the trip of a lifetime and we are pretty sure it will be an annual occurrence.  We took three weeks again to explore the PNW by water up into Desolation Sound and the Discovery Islands and were fortunate enough to bring along family with us to help with the kids.  With Melina being so young and needing my attention full time, having their company was the only way we could have made this trip work.
Many people ask me how I managed to travel like this with my kids being so young?  Melina had just turned three months old when we left for this trip and it wasn't the first time we took her out for a long run. We whisked Totes away for a three week trip across the border into Canada when he was only three weeks old!  We are fortunate to have a boat that fits us all very comfortably.  Although I love the comforts of home, I find in those early days I'm just alternating between nursing and helping the baby sleep 24/7 and I can do that anywhere!  Might as well be somewhere beautiful.
With the weather treating us so well on this trip, we made home base in Prideaux Haven and ventured off to other spots from there, but kept coming back for the warm, swimmable waters.  Found a few new favorite spots as well.

Check it out!

Gorgeous white beaches on Savary Island.  We stopped here for only an hour as the tide was going out and we were worried about the changing water levels while leaving the boat on anchor.

Space saving toys were a must and these no-mess coloring books from Melissa & Doug were perfect!  I seriously marveled at these things for several weeks after we got them, how genius!  We also loved their re-usable peel and stick pictures and of course brought our collection of Disney's Cars characters.

The DOCKATOT was a great asset to have on this trip.  Melina had just started rolling over so this gave me peace of mind that she stayed put when I had to set her down.  Totes loved it too and was kept having to kick him out of it! She slept in this for naps and it was so great especially whenever we were underway and the boat was rocking which kept her from getting tossed around!  (Here's a code for 10% off)

I'm working on updating an old travel blog I started pre-kids.  It details our boating adventures up here in the Pacific Northwest via power boat and gives information and advice for others traveling by boat as well to ports and locations that we've recently visited.  This trip to Desolation Sound will happen for us every year we are able to go so I'll share more details about our trips there! Coming soon...
